Illness and disability are continuing themes in TV programmes from all over the world but many of them merely confirm the popular assumption that the disabled re only of significance as they evoke our pity or respect for their heroic determination. The four programmes in this session are all attempts to break away from the clichés and bring disability into the common human realm of experience. In the discussion which follows we will ask: did the programme makers succeed or fail?
