In this session, we examine real AI case-projects that were either halted before release or only made it to the public after navigating complex ethical, legal, or cultural dilemmas. You will step into a space where AI experiments collide with (too?) rigorous public service restrictions, revealing how different countries tackle questions of regulations concerning rights, ethics, biases and all that jazz when it comes to AI. From the bold ambitions that never saw the light of day to more or less controversial initiatives that ultimately passed the approval process, these examples will shed light on the delicate balance between technological progress, public interest and humans in loops. Listen to behind-the-scenes accounts from some of the professionals who confronted the task of aligning innovation with responsible broadcasting. And discover how restrictions, caution, and open debate shape the future of AI within public service media. Different countries choose different approaches when pushing the boundaries of possibility without losing sight of our core mission. During the session you will be introduced to public service AI projects from most parts of the world including Taiwan, Spain, Australia, Netherlands, Italy and Scandinavia — and some of the more dubious ones made by or less restrictive commercial competitors.
