Interpreting the classics poses special problems and opportunities to the program maker. Radical interpretations can be used to attract young audiences to classic plays, to shed new light on a familiar text, or to create a dialogue with the original. The programs in this session have succeeded in attracting new audiences, but have also enraged some traditionalists.
