In times of exploding online activity, public broadcasters have the option of working with their audiences and protagonists to tell the stories that matter to them. Now is the time for Public Broadcasting Systems to share the responsibility of representing the underprivileged and marginalised with them. AV storytelling technology is cheap, and it is within the role of the PSB to educate the public and promote media literacy. PSB have to start finding meaningful ways to include the audiences in the production process. Let’s stick together, there has to be a way. In this session we present five programmes with various levels of audience participation in the production of the programmes. Is this new type of ‘co-production’ effective? Does producing with the audience guarantee authenticity? Is inclusion enough to guarantee respectful representation?
