How do we as a programme-makers, determine what is acceptable on tlevision: what informs or exposes; or is merely gratuitous? When public television prtrays death, AIDS, prostitution or sexual deviance, there is a conflict between dealing responsibly with the subject matter and attracting a large audience. The public has the right to film human pain sometimes leaving people without their dignity? Does every country have its own set of values, its own rules? Or is there a universally recognised line beyond which one should not step?
