The catalogue of artist who have spent significant part of their lives in exile stretches back through history. From the earliest times writers and poets, musicians and painters, have found themselves at odds in one way or another with the country in which they were born and have lived away from their native lands. Art knows no boundaries and great work has often been the product of such exile. Yet the influence of home has generally been a constant and powerful source of inspiration for the expatriate artist.
