The Finnish piece utilizes full motion picture technique graphically to present the style and mood of the period of the Finnish national poem “Kalevala”. In THE NICK OF TIME, the synthesizer is used to create the feeling of liquidity and motion in terms of the passage of time and events, while the Danish piece is an animated visualization of the following patterns which form the structure of symphonic music. Despite its appearance, the program is not electronic but drawn by hand. Over 57,000 single exposures create the colorful and musically intelligent work of art. NEAR A SLUMBERING WOMAN is a poetic and very personal piece of television art presented in narrative video form. The subject deals with the telling of a dream of a mysterious bus trip and confused love for two women. The last program is a presentation of the Benjamin Britten opera, utilizing full motion picture production techniques to add additional dimensions impossible in stage presentation. The high levels of visual imagination and technical excellence led it to be nominated for an International Emmy Award in 1983.
