The programme tells about the demented Gerda Dybdahl who in spite of her illness has a dignified life. She is taken care of in a little daytime home specifically intended for such patients, and by her own family. The contrast we find in the corridors of a big hospital where no one has time to talk with these patients. And lack of human contact leads to accelerated development of the illness. Old age (or senile) dementia is an illness striking ever more people, especially the oldest persons. And now the number of persons more than 80 years old is growing. Because of the fact that the illness leads to loss of memory and of the ability to orient oneself in the environment, the patients cannot manage on their own.
