This serious of four sessions will concentrate on the issues, chagenlles, and opportunities that face program makers who are concerned with the Arts and Culture. All proigrams selected as the basis for discussion make a fresh attempt at excellence, all of them have something exciting and interesting to say to a wide audience, and almost all of them raise contentious points about how we should be going about this difficult but essential work. Perhaps because of the way that televisions usually characterised the Arts, many people believe the Arts have nothing to do with the evryday real world and all its problems and issues. the program in this session attempt to show that an artistic response has a vital part to play in giving meaning to the weary procession of terrors that face us every day on our screens.
