Fred Wiseman’s camera furnishes us with this kind of material: long sequences that follow their subjects beyond what normally seems necessary for mere information; life develops at its own pace... Few programme planners are ready to risk this tempo. Conversely, the magazines are going through an important development in order to integrate better into the general movement of programming. Do theses too forms actually have to be opposed? By way of different approaches they may come to the same results: a higher knowledge of our reality in all its complexity, beyond mere evidence.
