A promising and clear format can attract audiences, but how do you make them come for theformat and stay for the content?In this session we show three succesful formats from Switzerland, Poland, Finland, and askwhether they could travel? They may very well work locally, but would they work in other countries?And if so, what should definitely be kept and what requirements should be met in terms ofcultural adaptation?We will explore the balance between scripted and improvised elements and discuss how muchsteering or ‘fakeness’ is either needed or allowed to convey and create real emotions.When does the format as such take over, leaving you with a shallow experience? And when is theaudience genuinely captivated and seduced to go for real involvement with the subject or theprotagonists?More specifically we will dig into the demands of an entertaining format within public service media.How do you make it relevant in terms of educational and informative aims?In which ways can you create a valuable interaction with the audience? And is this even necessary?Or is well-made entertainment with no more pretentions good enough?
