Ways of liberation

CHASKI’s Group film, “Ways of Liberation”, shows how liberation theology is performed through practice. Through its twenty minutes the film shows the work of hundred of priests from humble parishes in the young towns (name given to shanty towns since the end of the sixties and beginning of the seventies). Without restriction the documentary shows how this of the Church works within an atmosphere characterized by violence, repression, inmorality and injustice. It is in this sense that the words with which priest Gustavo Gutierrez ends the film are most meaningful: “difficult is the situation, difficult is the reality; it is not the theology the one which creates this situation. What we do is simply not to pretend this reality does not exist. From there we assume the challenge which a reality like this produces to us. This attempt to talk God is the liberation theology”.
