Los Apellidos is an intimate and transgressive drama that explores the limits of love and identity when confronted with conventional family structures. Rather than passing moral judgement, the narrative immerses itself in the inner worlds of Rosa and Lucía, two women bound by a biological tie that has evolved into a profound and painful romantic relationship. Through an encounter set against the vastness of nature, the film captures a moment of brutal honesty in which they are forced to face the impossibility of their fate: the certainty of having found a singular, irreplaceable love, and the equally certain need to renounce it in order to preserve the appearance of a functional family. Visually, the film uses spatial contrast to reflect the duality of their lives. The openness of the mountains and wide fields becomes the only refuge where their hands can intertwine and their lips meet without the weight of external judgement.
