30 years ago, the East German GDR dictatorship: Harmut Rosinger, codename !Hans Kramer!, is an 'IM!, an unofficial collaborator of the Stasi secret police force. His task is to secretly report on his friend Peter Wulkau, suspected of writing a novel criticising the GDR. As a result Peter Wulkau is imprisoned for crimes against the state.
