Synonimous with the 1950´s “Golden Age of Television” is the name Paddy Chafefsky, the triple Oscar-winning writer whose early teleplays were a major influence in establishing a realistic dramatic style that focused on the finely observed events of everyday life. Featuring Anne Bancroft in the title role, The Mother is one of Chayefsky´s classic scripts, telling the poignant story of a widow struggling to retain her identity in a world that seems to have no place for her. Inspired by the story of Chayefsky´s own mother, this new production is particulary significant in light of the fact that there is no existing record of the original broadcast, first shown on the Philco-Goodyear Playhouse in 1954. The new cast includes Joan Cusack, Stephen Lang, Adrian Pasdar, Anne Meara and Mary Alice.
