Based on the biography of Sava Sumanovic (1896-1942), one of the most distinguished Yugoslav modern painters, the drama follows the story of his life, starting with the days of his art studies in Paris, the appearance of more and more serious mental illness until his return to his home-country and his tragic death. One of André Lhote’s most gifted students, Sumanovic became close with some of the most famous French artists of the late twenties, such as Felsse, Man Ray, but also with many bohemians, models... His illness coincided with the threat of Nazism, grew with the growth of fascism. In 1942, in the Yugoslav town of Sid, Sumanovic was shot by Oustachis, who “Freed” his mind laden with the guilt for all the tragedies and misfortunes of the ugly world that he lived in.
