Still Waters is an 8 x 30 minute drama series aimed atparents and their school aged children. The story takesplace in a bilingual Estonian-Russian high school on theborder with Russia, and follows a troubled Estonian-Ukrainian step family. Marianne, a happy capital city girl,unwillingly moves to a remote village with her Ukrainianmother Maria (39) to live together with her new stepfamilyconsisting of a local Estonian school principalRiho (51) and his son Joonas (18). Upon arriving at hernew school Marianne finds herself bullied and blackmailedwhen someone launches an online smear campaign againsther. Events spiral into terror and Marianne is forced tofight back with all means necessary. Her struggles will notbe easy as she also has to put up with pressure comingfrom teachers, schoolmates, family and society, all ofwhom have set expectations and put pressure on someonegraduating from high school. Likewise, her mother, Maria,who is conveniently also the new French teacher at thehigh school, has to deal with pressure at home wheretensions arise with her new husband. Nobody is who theyappear to be.
