Their students were prisoners at Rimutaka and Arohata Corrections facilities. It launched an extraordinary and unprecedented series for Maori Television. Songs From The Inside, provokes and challenges as acclaimed songwriters, Anika Moa, Warren Maxwell, Maisey Rika and Ruia Aperahama work with ten prisoners - four men, six women - to write, sing and record their own songs. As the journey behind bars unfolds, so do unsettling truths as both prisoners and artists face their doubts, pasts and each other to turn walls of distrust into songs from the heart.
