This film plunges us into the strange and inexorable world of two pairs of twins. Mady and Monette have been together for forty-five years, ever since the day of their conception. As dancers in a variety show, they have become an internationally-renowned duo. They share the same lover; he is a very physical link between them. In this way, they are able to preserve the exceptional fusion they have as twins. Laurence and Christelle, who model for art classes at the school of Beaux Arts, were divided by hate and jealousy until they were twenty. At that time, Christelle decided to break open the claustrophobic world of duality and resemblance by getting her face changed through plastic surgery. Now, as 'individual' twins, the two sisters live and work together. But they also experience a sort of latent homosexuality which perturbs their relationship with men. Statistically, twins – whether male or female – are less likely to be in a couple than 'individuals.' They very often remain single. These two unusual stories give us food for thought by shedding some light on the intimate relationship which both unites and also paradoxically, opposes twins in a perpetual combat to exist as doubles.
