Visual illusion –the mistaken ownership of reality – a normal abnormality. The Belgian René Magritte (1898 -1967) was an artist who made us stop and realize that we cannot see and experience the world as it really is. Man “owns” reality – he materializes it. Do we exploit everything: our human relations, ourselves, our environment, our culture? In one of his paintings the artist showed a landscape which, placed on its essel, prevents the viewer from looking through the window at the part of the landscape depicted in the painting. Magritte called this work “The state of man”. Do we imagine we have already seen everything before our eyes, that we do not need to take a second look, or at least not to reassess what we have seen and perceived? This programme is an animated variation on Magritte’s works and is based on the manuscript by the psychiatrist Martti Siirala.
