Nana Akoto
NANA AKOTO, chief of Oyoko village in central Ghana, is getting old and tired. In spite of his young concubine’s efforts and the Juju man’s charms, he cannot father a child. Work on the building site of the new chief’s palace – Nana’s life work and the glory of the village – has been stagnant for months for want of cement. Mante, the teacher, who is in charge of construction work, thinks the whole thing is ridiculous anyway. Even certain members of the council of Elders seem quite pleased about the delay. What does the old chief want a palace for? A well or some cattle would be far more useful. There are quite a few people who think Nana Akoto’s period of office might as well come to an end. After all, his nephew Kwame could be his successor and he has actually been to university in the capital Accra. After a long session with the Juju man Nana Akoto feels much revived. The villagers are ordered to make liberal donations. In a lorry loaded with vegetables, palm wine, chickens and goats, nana Akoto drives to Accra. The cement he buys from the proceeds has to be stolen first which, however, doesn’t worry Nana Akoto in the least. Successfully returned to the village, he starts to beget offspring . After debating with the Juju man, he decides that only a really powerful sacrifice will do: the new breeding bull.Like “Kukurantumi – Road to Accra” the African village comedy NANA AKOTO will be shown on German Television as well as in African cinemas. NANA AKOTO marks the continued cooperation ( which began with “Kukurantumi – Road to Acra”) with Ghanaen director King Ampaw and the Ghanaen film industry.“Kukurantumi – Road to Accra” was presented at the INPUT 1984 in Charleston.
