In 1983, the Justice and Peace Committee, supported by several other civil organizations, held a symbolic court of justice (Tiradentes Tribunal), inspired by the Bertrand Russell Tribunal, in order to judge the Nacional Security Law. “In the Name of National Security” is a documentary film on the Tiradentes Tribunal showing not only its highlights but also the background of the National Security Law, including newsreel excerpts on the rise of the military by the Americans. The unsafety and terror climate that comanded daily life during the harsher periods of the regime is recalled by the picture.
