In this VR quiz show viewers learn about environmentalissues (global warming, plastic waste) and areencouraged to take positive action to help our planet.100 people in their teens and twenties log into a virtualspace, using digital avatars to take part. Contestantsmust answer questions on issues ranging from basicfacts about building a sustainable world to the ways wecan be greener in our daily lives. They battle throughfive stages including a sandy desert and Antarctica.Only one will be crowned Futureking. The show invitesviewers (including those not usually interested in thesetopics), to think about environmental issues and SDGin an entertaining and non-preachy way. We want theaudience to realise, that while having fun, this is amatter that concerns us all and to encourage actionsthat are environment-friendly. We used a video-gameengine to develop our own original VR platform, creatinga globetrotting, gamified experience that appealsto youngsters. The show’s interactive format allowsaudience members across the country to participateremotely and safely, without the risks that in-personevents pose during the pandemic. Moreover, we didnot need wasteful physical sets. We avoided the CO2emissions that transporting contestants to our studioswould have caused. As a result, this program serves as aprototype for sustainable television production.
