Exils is a cross platform project that tells the insidestory of six young Syrian men from Rakka (13 to 24 yearsold) on the migrant road from Syria to Europe. Our radiojournalist, Nicolae Schiau, travelled with the migrantsfrom Kilis (Syrian boarder) to Calais (France) using asmartphone, mini laptop and a GoPro to produce radio, video, photos, tweets, etc. Abandoning traditionalbroadcast methods, our reporter took advantage ofsocial media such as SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter,Instagram and Periscope, as well as WhatsApp tostay in touch with migrants and the editorial teamin Switzerland. The entire project was documentedand enriched on our website, including an interactivemap of the migrant road. Experimenting with recenttechnology, including a program from the Swiss start-up‘Teleport’, and posting in real time attracted a broadand active audience. The project constantly adapted totheir needs, rather than the other way around. Beingin total immersion and in constant contact with theaudience fostered an authentic, sometimes funny toneto the storytelling. In this way, Radio Télévision Suissewas able to reach new audiences that became part ofthe conversation and brought to light a new perspectiveon the migrant question.
