Endance
Written and directed by John Sanborn, “Endance” offers and unconventional video “memoir” of former choreographer Timothy Buckley. When approached by john Schott, Executive Producer of “Alive From Off Center”, to re-edit a dance work called “A man With An Idea” which had been produced by Timothy Buckley and K.O. Beckman several years ago, I wasn’t interested. But out of deference to the series to which I’d been long associated, and because I wasn’t doing much else at the time, I said I’d meet with Tim Buckley, whose work I had admired for years.After a few minutes of conversation I said “Well, if we’re going to lump together a bunch of your dance pieces, perhaps we can shoot a rehearsal for some continuity”. “Nope”, he said.“Well, then perhaps backstage at some upcoming performance”.“Can’t do it”, he replied.“What? I have to have some thread on which to hang these video shorts”.“I’ve stopped dancing”, he said. Then I knew we had our home.“Everybody talks about it, but no one really stops making it. We’re all going to become plumbers, but we never do. He’s a guy who made the move...... the many reasons why he quit the institutionalized dance world, Buckley also reflects on what it means be an artist in the 1980’s.
