Starring Maya Plisetskaya in a ballet to music by Rodion Schedrin and inspired by the motifs of Chekhov's story. This is the second time the famed ballerina turns to Chekhov's works: the first was the role of Nina Zarechnaya in The Seagull; now it's Anna Sergeyevna... This ballet is more intimate in character and compact than The Seagull with its numerous planes, and dealing with and artist's place in life and passions unshared: The ballet The Lady and the Little Dog unfolds as a chain of love duets and is outwardly less dramatic. But Plisetskaya who staged the performance conscientiously limited her imagery means so as to draw nearer , in ballet form, to the noble simplicity of Chekhov's prose. [aka Lady with a Lapdog]
