Yakuza Money

The Japanese Maif? a, also known as the Yakuza, is adapting to the times and coming up with new and inventive ways of making money. Money that was illegally earned through drug dealing, illegal gambling and lending in Japan is said to amount to more than US$10 billion dollars. Now, the Yakuza are using this money to enter the stock markets in an effort to make an even bigger pro? t. Much of their ill-gained money is being laundered through the stock markets with the not always unwitting help of many ‘ordinary’ people, aiding crime syndicates in their quest for power. In this programme , we witness some actual transactions that were caught on camera and interviews with several of the characters involved in this underground economy. This documentary shows how the ever-growing Yakuza money fund is negatively affecting the economy of Japan, and undermining Japanese society as a whole.
