Without Your or Me

In February 91 the Assize Court of Liege Belgium passed sentence of ten years imprisonment on a 53 year old woman, for the attempted murder of her husband, committed with the help of two accomplices. At the moment of the arrest and during the following weeks the woman admitted her guilt without any difficulty. She even went into all the frightful details: she spoke about the well of the farm where she intended to hide the corpse, or about a motor chain saw with which she intended to dispatch her husband... This powerful and lucky man succeeded finally to escape the death while attacked by surprise by the two accomplices of his wife. And suddenly this event became properly extraordinary when the miraculously healed decided to pardon and even more to protest his love to his wife. From this exceptional story André Francois proposes a careful and inventive reflection on the deep sense of simple and essential notions of our lives: love, couple, responsibility, forgiveness. And so from the trajectory of two particular and excessive beings he raises lots of questions in which we are all concerned about the circumstances which can create absolute loves and hates. Tremendous love story, obstinacy and mutual destroying between two people unable to live together or separated. This story begins like a drama and could have proceeded on its way to sordidness. It opens, in fact, on a hymn for life. For it´s imaginable that after twenty years of galley the best of this couple has to come. So true is it that the fact that your wife has intended to kill you is not sufficient to get cross with her... The evidence by a public television that it is quite possible to speak of the private life of an anonymous citizen with decency and respect, while refusing the demagogy of the commercial television reality shows.
