“White Lies” is a brutally explicit examination of the allure and perils fascism holds for young people. How does an ordinary middle-class girl from the suburbs become a Nazi? “White Lies”, a made-for-TV movie based on a real story shows how a bright but alienated and disenchanted teenager becomes involved with a neo-Nazi group through the Internet. She is drawn in more by the attention and acceptance the group offers her than by its philosophy. Articulate and sincere, she is the perfect face for the movement to present to the world as their spokesperson. By the time she begins to doubt her decision and question the ultimate aims of the movement, it is too late. She has become an accomplice to violence. The film exposes the subtle and not-so-subtle hatred and racism that underlies the brave front of the tolerant multi-cultural society. It is also a film about the allure of white power that is not afraid to portray the fascists as hip and happening.
