Formerly a regional bi-monthly programme, Zazie is now broadcast nationally on France 3 every Thursday night at 11:30 pm. Documentaries for literature Zazie tries to establish a style that communicates the atmosphere which surrounds the writer and the reader: time, the passage of time, introspection, intimacy. This does not exclude pictures and journeys. A programme about literature that would be the continuation of our reading or that simply guides our reading. The programme is a documentary magazine rather than a talk-show. It allows us to enter a book´s universe, to expand it. It enable us to call up other places, other images, other writers, other books, and other readers; all of which brings us closer to the desire to read, thusly, closer to literature. The title of the programme is 'What Does Zazie Say?' It is analogous to looking at: how books talk to us, roads to writing, books as objects, what do they communicate to the reader as well as to the writer. What do people who explore them or those who that create them have to say? What is that makes us want to read?, - is a question that permeates the programme. The answer can perhaps be found on small side roads, far from current affairs, far from the blinding lights of a television studio and made-up authors, far from brand new books fresh off the presses. Zazie has been on the air for three years. It has kept its documentary style as well as the principles which have inspired it from the beginning: present a book in a real-life situation, present a book by talking about the desire to read.
