It centers around such a story: A peasant in inland China, who once taught in a village school, formed his unique understanding and ideas about the present situation of Chinese society and its education system. He put his understanding and ideas into practice with his own son, and led his son to the fastest way of development as he sees it. Li Zhaoyang, a Chinese farmer in Henan Province, took his 10-year-old son, Li Shuguang, to the capital Beijing, hoping to train his son into a 'talent', well-versed in English in two years. In Beijing, they had neither relatives nor friends and were often mocked by the locals, leading a very hard life. Luckily, a primary school teacher showed sympathy for them, and let them live temporarily in a room 2 metres square. The father did not know any English and hoped to find a foreigner in Beijing to help his son learn English and offer some financial aid in life as well. A chance encounter put them in touch with an ageing American woman, Shaley, and she sympathised with their plight deeply. Then, the father and son were full of hope, expecting the miracle in their dream to occur.
