Uzi Wars is the controversial story of how sophisticated military assault weapons fall into the hands of adolescent drug dealers, organized crime assassins and para military and indigenous American terrorist groups. It aired state wide in Pennsylvania and in San Francisco, California. It aired two days after a man with an AK-47 assault rifle killed five children and wounded 29 others during an attack on a Stockton, California schoolyard. This emotionally charged program played a key role in the raging gun debate…a political lobby group sent copies of UZI WARS to all of the California state lawmakers before they voted to ban ownership of semiautomatic military assault weapons in California. This same anti gun lobby sent hundreds of copies to the U.S. Congress and key members of the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee-it’s subcommittee on crime-viewed UZI WARS and held hearings and called as witnesses many of the people profiled in UZI WARS. Police departments across the country obtained copies of UZI WARS and asked for additional copies to be used as training films in their local actions against heavily armed drug dealers. U.S. Drug Czar William Bennett viewed UZI WARS prior to imposing his temporary ban on the importation into the U.S. of all military assault weapons.
