Seventeen-year-old Trevor lives on a northern housing estate, where he fills his days smoking blow, joyriding, breaking into houses and writing poetry. His muse is Annie, his 16-year-old neighbor. Each morning Trevor works on the poem he hopes will win Annie's heart. However, Annie is pregnant by another man and Trevor's losing streak continues when a house he burgles turns out to belong to Annie's grandfather. Trevor determines to go straight and finds work on the line at the local chicken factory, but can he see it through?
