Joan Barril, the highly-respected Catalan writer and journalist (op-ed coordinator for 'La Vanguardia' newspaper) and the well-known theatre director, Joan Ollé (Director of the Sitges-Barcelona Theatre Festival), have been friends for many years. This history of friendship, together with their joint experience doing a poetry program on Catalan national radio, led them to create their very own Treasure Island: a weekly half-hour program broadcast on Thursdays just before midnight. This is a program with a clear cultural orientation and directed towards a very specific audience eager to savor a virtual cocktail of visual, musical and written poetry. Each week´s Treasure Island features a special guest who contributes to various of the separate segments of the program and ties them together. Among those who have visited Treasure Island are actress Ariadna Gil, Catalan folk singer Joan Manuel Serrat, top model Judith Mascó and internationally-renowned architect, Ricard Bofill. In the program submitted to this festival, Barril and Ollé play last game of darts, nude bodies bend into the shapes of sailing knots, Ariadna Gil recites poetry, the audience visits the museum of fairy tales and comic strips, a Hopper painting appears to come alive, we hear the lullaby – with lyrics by Federico García Lorca – that Ariadna´s father sang to her when she was a child, Arianne 5 trasnports us to a poem by Catalan writer Joan Salvat Papasseit, Ariadna recalls the night she won an Oscar, Jacques Brel moves us with his words and music and, last but not least, we´re told a sweet bedtime story just before going to sleep.
