Toothpaste

It is morning. A young, upwardly-mobile couple start to argue over who left the cap off the toothpaste tube, resulting in the bathroom irritation known as 'crusty toothpaste'. Thus starts Toothpaste, a 5-minute opera that mixes love and loss, passion and betrayal. It is been described as a 'tragic opera buffa' and a 'comic domestic opera'. Simultaneously epic and amusing, Toothpaste is an original opera in miniature by Canada composer Alexina Louie. It features soprano Barbara Hannigan and Saturday-Night-Live alumnus Mark McKinney.
