This is a story full of several other stories. It is completely ew, but also comes from a long, long time ago. It refers to our childhood memories that still secretly accompany us, just waiting for the right moment to reappear. Based on the book by Carlos Alberto Soffredini and inspired by the universe of popular Brazilian culture, this mini-series with eight chapters was first aired on Globo TV on 11 January 2005. From the start, director Luiz Fernando Carvalho imagined telling this story in a different kind of space, one that was not reality in itself, but rather an emotional representation of it, like in a dream. And that is how Maria’s journey in the world begins, as a small Ulysses trying to return home to her parents’ house. The mini-series was entirely taped inside a large dome. Consisting of eight chapters, represented by the opening and closing chapter in this Conference, it targets a wide public: both children and adults, who are able to emotionally identify with the story. In summary, Today is Maria’s Day is a journey into universal popular culture and proposes that we play with our imagination. Are you ready to light up your heart?
