Gray streets confined by pre-fabricated high-rises, monstrous shopping centres. The mood is gloomy in Rostock's troublesome suburb, even on a sunny day. After her training at the police academy in Berlin, Anne ends up here, of all places. The inconspicuous but not unattractive 27-year-old is single. She hopes that her private life will find a new beginning as well. But police routine is dominated by tedious bureaucracy and the more or less meaningful daily encounter with every possible type of crime. It is difficult for Anne to cope with people's situations, the reality of their social poverty. She isn't always able to keep her distance. Her relationship towards her colleague Mike is also ambivalent. On the one hand, she feels attracted to him, but on the other hand, she is painfully aware that he is married and has two little children. After Anne runs across 10-year-old Benny, who is caught shoplifting and whose family situation doesn't provide him with any real emotional support, she decides to look after him and runs into Benny's father Jegor, a small-time Russian crook, who she feels strangely attracted to. But Jegor is unable to satisfy Anne's longing.
