The elements used to make this film were first produced through a process of collective improvisations. These improvisations, done in the context both of private work-shops and public performances from spring 88 to winter 88, involved dance, writing, music and “live” animation scratched directly on a 16 mm film loop while the projector was running. The film was made through editing those 18 very short animated films along with video images shot at one of the public performances, and additional shooting done especially for the film. The text “ La lettre d’amour” improvised during one of the workshops was used as the story line. Although the film is a trace of this unusual process, it has its own coherence as a simple story about a woman receiving a love letter. It deals with passion, communication and distance. Indirectly it is also a statement about television.
