The kingdom (I)

The Kingdom is an 4 hour television series starring Kristen Rolffes, Ghinta Nørby (Best Intentions), Ernst-Hugo Järegård (Europa) and Udo Kier (My Private Idaho). Lars von Trier´s TV series is an ironic soap opera set in Copenhaguen´s “Kingdom Hospital” and inspired by classic ghost movies of the 1950s. The hospital has changed considerably since its construction in 1910, but the spirit of the past is beginning to make its presence felt in the ghost of Mary – an illegitimate child murdered by her father, the infamous Dr. Krüeger. Award-winning films like The Element of Crime and Europa have established von Trier as one of the most innovative and influential-film-makers of his generation. The extraordinary visual universe associated with the Danish director is once again present in The Kingdom, a reality-TV voyage into the surreal.
