At the beginning of 1985, the producers of “To-day” decided to make a documentary about football supporters in an attempt to understand the reasons for their passion.Following the European Cup matches and the events which occurred in Italy and Britain, they decided to take a look at the Liverpool and Juventus-Turin fans. They filmed them for several days and were with them on Wednesday, 29th May, at the Heysel stadium in Brussels for the final of the European Cup-Winners’ Cup.Television Suisse Romande’s cameras filmed the drama which took place that day: the increasing violence, fear, panic and finally death. The importance of this programme to INPUT lies in the choice of subject, everything filmed by Swiss television during the days before the tragedy, and the explanation of the reasons for it. This documentary also illustrates the importance which television can have in presenting such an event.
