The other side of the 'computer revolution' seen from the viewpoint of workers who have no control over the new machines. Supermarket checkout clerks, secretaries, postal workers and telephoneoperators testify with humour, lucidity and determination about the impact of technological changes on their work: loss of control over work, dehumanizating electronic surveillance, health problems related to mental strain, and, of course, loss of jobs.
