A view of a great battle, from the men who fought it, but who saw all too little, and cared less, for its great design. An attempt to portray an epic in a minimal, stylised form. The play was performed live, to accentuate the sense of battle, to revive and underline some of the valuable technical skills involved in live drama, and to give cast and technicians alike a feeling of personal involvement and commitment. We were also keen to investigate a very simple form of visual presentation, concentrating entirely on the actors. There are no sets, and only stylised props. All the visual effects, and sound effects, of which there are many, had to be carefully rehearsed during the three studio days. There has been no editing or post-production. I apologise for submitting to a conference in Marseille a play about an English victory in battle over the French!.
