By first time in the Spanish TV, this series portrait, researches and offers the audience the visual documents and the inside negotiations of the political transition in Spain from the dictatorship of general Franco to Democracy. The political actors of the process reveal which were the negotiations, behind a social atmosphere of agitation, confrontation and illusion after 40 years of fascist dictatorship. The first episode starts with the assassination – blew up by ETA – of the admiral Carrero Blanco, the man who Franco assigned to be his successor perpetuating the principles of the fascist National Movement. After the terrorist coup, by first time the hopes for a future democracy are open. On the same day a group of trade union leaders are submitted to judgment at the Palace of Justice, in the famous process called “The 1,001 Process.” The official catholic church, traditionally supportive of the Franco´s regime, now lead by Cardinal V.E. Tarancón, takes distance from the regime and during the funeral of the assassinated Admiral, the Cardinal gets the imprecations of the extreme right who shouts to him: “Tarancón al Paredón.” The episode relates the period between the dead of Carrero Blanco until the appointment of his successor, a more moderate personality of the regime, Arias Navarro, revealing the intrigues and negotiations of the different political tendencies inside the regime and with a non legal yet opposition of all kinds of ideologies.
