“The Dreams Republic” is an imaginary refl ection of true Indonesian politics today. It has public offi cials (the president, vice president, ministers), political fi gures, artists, activists, people in the news and other stakeholders, whose physical resemblance or character mirrors their “doppelgaenger” in their “neighboring” country, Indonesia. This is the pioneer of political parody/satire in Indonesia or even in South East Asia. The Dreams Republic has managed to survive to this day due to its popularity with the Indonesian public. It still sticks to the aims of doing political civilisation and encouraging liberating democracy in contemporary Indonesia. Out there, our imaginary world has impacted the real world as the activists, politicians, students, and people in the street are using our words, phrases, songs, and symbols in classrooms, news spots, political rallies, demonstrations, as well as the current campaign of the approaching legislative and presidential elections in 2009.
