A documentary based on the arrest and prosecution of an innocent, profoundly deaf man who was held in prison for two years awaiting trial on a charge of murdering a baby. He was prosecuted on the basis of a fluent four page written confession, endorsed in his own handwriting. But he can neither read nor write. The structure and style of the documentary are original. It is partially dramatised, using re-enactments drawn directly from the trail transcripts. Editorially, it confronts the New Zealand Police Force. The producer is a freelance journalist and documentary maker who worked alone as researcher, writer, and director, staking his reputation on the accuracy of his research and on his analysis of the case.
