Salvador Dalí had an obsession for science that lasted all his life and that can be traced to his paintings. He was a compulsive reader of scientific literature, from psychoanalysis to quantum mechanics, from mathematics to genetics. Moreover, he strived all his life to meet relevant scientists: Sigmund Freud, J.D.Watson (discoverer of the structure of DNA and Nobel prize winner), Ilya Prigogine (Nobel prize, Chemistry 1977). These and other scientists he befriended were surprised to discover that beyond the façade of a clownish showman was a brilliant artist with whom they could have meaningful discussions at the crossroads of art and science. The film weaves together the highpoints of 20th century science with the impact these discoveries had on the works of Dalí. It includes previously unseen footage of Dalí’s relation with scientists as well as eyewitness accounts by Watson, Prigogine and others. The Dali Dimension reveals a completely unknown aspect of one of the most important figures of 20th century, and gives new clues to interpret some of his major masterpieces.
