'The City' tells the narrative stories of immigrants seeking community in large, impersonal cities. Using a small number of professional actors along with actual residents of New York City´s Latin American neighborhoods, 'The City' expresses a powerful humanity, evoking hope in the midst of despair. A homeless father and daughter perform puppet shows on vacant lots; a young laborer is killed scavenging for bricks; two teenagers from the same village fall in love, then lose each other in the dizzying world of a housing project; a young garment worker, learning of her daughter´s illness and need for hospitalization, struggles to be paid the long overdue wages owed her by the sweatshop boss.
