After more than a decade of living a life built on lies, fast money, violence, and massive financial fraud, Danish corporate lawyer Amira Smajic wants out. Out of her life as a trusted advisor to some of Denmark’s most notorious criminal gangs. When she meets filmmaker Mads Brügger, they join forces with a team of investigative journalists and reopen the consultancy office Smajic ran for over ten years. The office is now wired with hidden cameras. For over six months, it becomes a hub for hardcore criminals with ties to international biker gangs, but also for high-profile visitors — lawyers, major contractors, and businessmen — colluding with criminals in money laundering and tax fraud schemes. This unfolds in real-time before the eyes of the journalists, offering a deep dive into a ruthless world where deceiving society is seen as a badge of honour. It is not without risk that Amira deceives her criminal relations on rolling cameras. But then the project twists completely. The journalists discover that Amira — their own mole — has also deceived them and they face a whole series of impossible choices. The series became by far the most watched doc ever in Denmark. It had many consequences and has raised huge discussions about the sensational content, but also about the journalistic methods.
