The story of neglected children abandoned by their biological parents who are finally adopted by a regular family after years of humiliation. They are five Polish siblings, children of alcoholic parents, who, from an orphanage, move to an ideal home of adoptive American parents. The fact that Polish adoption law forbids separating the siblings has worked in their favour this time. When we meet the children, the elder ones show reluctance towards future guardians. Although abandoned and lonely, they manage to take root in the conditions their parents had created for them. Drunken brawls and parental neglect drove them from orphanage to orphanage, where they were occasionally visited by their father. A childless American couple longing to have a large family was the children´s lucky draw. After the period of adoption preparation, their future parents start to get acquainted with the children. Living together in a home in Poland, they use dictionaries to communicate and build their emotional ties. The eldest boy finds it impossible to adjust to the new conditions, his psyche damaged by the parents´ lifestyle. For the remaining four children, the culture and language shock are less problematic. The awakened sense of individualism has brought forth the need for development, learning and mutual closeness.
