Strippers

A portrait/confession of 3 women strippers. Some of the shots were filmed in secret at times by the women themselves during the show, in their dressing room, or alone in the privacy of their own homes. We decided to film the lives of these women over one whole years in this way capturing developments in their personal lives and careers. We were curious to know what had driven them to make such a radical (and often permanent) decision in the first place. Apart from the financial incentive, what that is it that makes a woman want to strip in public? Although Animalya, Gilda and Melissa are completely different, they seem to share the same fierce determination to survive coupled with a need to lose themselves in front of an audience. Their motives are complex and at the same time amazingly simple. It gives them pleasure to dominate the opposite sex and to experience a thousand times over the illusion belonging to someone. The documentary was made by two women and this undoubtedly was important in terms of helping establish a closer rapport with three women.
